Almost Kosher Update (psssst….we’re coming back!)
Looking Forward: what Almost Kosher won’t be
As a result of the break, I’ve decided things will be a little bit different going forward. First of all, I’ve come to terms that I am not, and likely never will be, running a kosher kitchen. The title of the blog began as a tongue-in-cheek reference to my relationship with and my status in the Jewish religion. Only later did the meaning change when I decided to try to get as close to kosher cooking as I could.
As I have thought about religion in my life, I have found that keeping kosher does not rank high in my priorities. I do realize that there are those who will disagree with my decision, and I respect opposing views. Regardless, this blog will be more true to my original intent behind the title. I’m sure it’s confusing for some, but that’s OK. I’m always happy to answer respectful questions.
Additionally, I am also going to be honest with myself and with you about another thing I am not: an expert. I am not an expert on anything, much less anything cooking related. I felt a pressure that I needed to be an expert on whatever that topic I was writing about to write about it. Which is absolutely banana-pants ludicrous. I am putting the kabosh on that erroneous thinking.
Finally, I have decided I will not accept any compensation from anyone in exchange for content. That includes free or discounted products. That practice did not make me happy and, even though I never shared a dishonest opinion, felt disingenuous. Things I did want to share I had bought on my own and would have shared with any one of you anyway without receiving compensation.
What this blog will be going forward is a place for me to share my food journeys.
It might be a new spice or ingredient. It might be a new recipe. I may want to write about a restaurant I love. And I hope you will continue to follow along with me.
Above all, as we come into the holiday season, I wish everyone a wonderful and safe holiday — whichever one you choose to celebrate — with your loved ones. As for us, we will be enjoying adjusting to a new home and celebrating Chanukkah with our friends. Oh…and working on some content for the blog. 🙂
